“I cannot say enough positive about GMG Services. From the very first contact when an estimate was being given, they were responsive, punctual, clean-cut, and professional. Their estimate was extremely fair and they were completely transparent about what they were charging for, with no complicated "allowances" some contractors offer, which can make it difficult to compare quotes and can mask the true cost of their service vs. the materials cost. When drawing up the contract, I needed to get a variance from my community for the work, and I asked if we could void the contract if that didn't come through for some reason - Oscar from GMG (more below) offered to put a specific clause in the contract without me even asking.
Before contract signing and during the work, GMG was incredibly responsive. Every email was answered in a matter of an hour in most cases, as well as every phone call. My main contacts, Oscar and Aldo, and their field crews and supervisor operate on cell phones and Blackberries, which allows them to offer this level of service. On the rare occasion I had a question or concern, GMG was prompt and professional in addressing it, and they were never ignored. One time, the crew inadvertently left a garbage bag from the day's work in the backyard, and Oscar called on a Friday night to make sure it was OK if they picked it up the next day, and offered to have them come out that night. While this was hardly necessary, it demonstrates the level of professionalism and customer care you can expect.
The work crews showed up punctually every day, worked a solid day all days of the week, and were friendly and professional. They, and GMG overall, took excellent care of the house - they put down cloths and protective paper and plastic to protect the surrounding areas from harm, and cleaned them up at the end of the day when appropriate. They kept a clean work area both during and after work hours.
The quality of the work and final product are wonderful. The work is detail oriented, uses high quality components, and does not cut corners. It was done exactly as specified in the contract, which was also very detailed as to what they would do and the quality of the work practices. Anytime I asked if they could make a slight adjustment, or position something differently, they always did their best to accommodate us. Their materials, work practices, and attention to detail is first rate.
Two people in particular deserve mention. Aldo was the supervisor who was present at the site at least two days a week to monitor the quality of the project and make sure we, the customers, were happy. We had his direct cell phone number and he was always responsive in returning calls. Oscar was the person who gave the original estimate and was my other main contact. He, and Aldo, were both superior in returning calls and emails, and in being responsive to customer needs. They clearly know the business from both the construction end and customer service end. I travel during the week for work and my wife works as well, so the last thing we needed were people who didn't respond and who needed to be constantly monitored - this was never the case with GMG. Those who have dealt with unprofessional people in any field know how valuable this can be, and even more so when having them in your home.
GMG's method of contracting is find extremely fair. The contract with them is for the labor, and one selects and pays for the materials themselves. After that, GMG takes over to make sure the quantities and dimensions are correct. They have several excellent suppliers (which you're not required to use) that they work with and who help with design, and pass on the full contractor's discount, which can be considerable. GMG's payment structure is also very reasonable - the initial deposit was 25%, well below the one-third many firms ask for, and the remaining payments are spread evenly over the project.

Jose and Eddie also came up with a solution to finishing off the area under the counter where we would install our wine refrigerator that was very clever and made good use of the materials on hand. GMG worked well with the scheduling of the wood floor installation and the counter installation for our kitchen….All of the appliance installations went very well, and the GMG guys made sure the cabinets were installed correctly to accommodate the various machines….Once our tile and glass backsplash pieces arrived (not GMG's fault it took so long!), Noe and Eber installed the pieces beautifully. There was another glitch with the location of the electrical outlets, but Oscar arranged for the electricians and the tile men to work together to resolve that issue very well….Throughout the entire job, I thought that the GMG workers tried very hard to keep the mess of renovating to a minimum. Everyone cleaned up after themselves, which really meant a lot to me.
